To add to the suspense, survivors let out small screams from time to time while they hide, making it easier for Ghostface to track their location. The rest of the team are all survivors and have to hide from the ever-hunting Ghostface players. Scream Deathmatch casts two players in the role of Ghostface. But, its the addition of Scream Deathmatch that has had us playing Call of Duty more than usual. The Warzone map has also been transformed into a Halloween decorated landscape. Not to mention the voice actor from Scream does Ghostface’s voice. Each comes with their own related weapons and kill moves. The addition of horror related skins for Scream’s Ghostface and Donnie Darko’s Frank the Rabbit are really cool. Not many game franchises can keep that kind of player commitment, which touts Call of Duty as the only first-person shooter franchise to go to.This year’s Call of Duty Halloween event, The Haunting has been really fun. More players are also enjoying the entire library of Call of Duty titles, with each game holding a small yet active playerbase. Combining the numbers between Cold War, Warzone, and Modern Warfare, there are more than 113 million players enjoying what Call of Duty has offered over the past two years. Warzone has proven to be one of the biggest titles in the franchise. Combine that with the engine and gameplay of Modern Warfare 2019, which received critical acclaim for its back-to-basics gameplay, and Warzone is the best-case scenario for Call of Duty. Holding the Call of Duty brand is one of the key factors in Warzone’s success. While most of that playerbase is brought in because of Warzone being free-to-play, Warzone is also one of the biggest battle royale games out there because of its heritage.
In an earnings document published by Activision, Warzone is currently sitting at a monthly 111 million players. Warzone’s overwhelming success is no surprise, with over 100 million players in the game. However, as much as people are still playing Call of Duty games from years past while there are new games out, nothing can compare to the massive number of players enjoying Call of Duty free-to-play option. The game, which is the most current release in the series, has two million people still playing it. Even Call of Duty Mobile is hosting 266,000 concurrent players at the time of writing. According to ActivePlayer.io, the game currently holds around 153,000 players, even with Cold War being out for almost a year. This goes double for Modern Warfare 2019.
